Francis Ambrière
Francis Ambrière (born September 27, 1907 in Paris , † July 1, 1998 ) was a French writer and Romanist .
life and work
Ambrière went to school in Dijon and studied at the University of Dijon . From 1935 to 1939 he worked for the magazine Les Nouvelles littéraires . He processed his experiences in German captivity into the novel Les Grandes Vacances 1939-1945 , which received the Prix Goncourt of 1940 in 1946 . From 1946 to 1972 he was editor of the Guide bleus series (German Die Blauen Führer ) at Verlag Hachette .
Ambrière was a connoisseur of French theater history. In 1989 he became a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques . He was an officer in the Legion of Honor .
Francis Ambrière was married to the Romance literary scholar Madeleine Ambrière-Fargeaud.
