Francis Chapelet

Francis Chapelet (born March 3, 1934 in Paris ) is a French organist.

Life

The son of the marine painter Roger Chapelet first had organ lessons with Édouard Souberbielle at the École supérérieure de musique César Franck and then studied at the Paris Conservatory a . a. with Maurice Duruflé . There he received first prizes in the subjects of harmony, organ and improvisation.

Chapelet became titular organist on the Alfred Kern organ in the Saint-Séverin church in Paris. Chapelet specialized in the Spanish organ music of the 16th and 17th centuries. He founded the Académie de Paredes-Fuentes de Nava in 1979 , was appointed an expert in historical organs by the Autonomous Community of Castile-León in 1981 and is a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid.

In 1981 he founded an organ class at the Bordeaux Conservatory, which he directed until 1996. He has performed on concert tours all over Europe, the USA, South America and the Philippines.
