Sir Francis Hamilton, 1st Baronet (* before 1610, † 1673 ) was a Scottish-Irish nobleman and politician.

He was the son and heir of Sir Claud Hamilton from a line of the Scottish clan Hamilton and his wife Jane Lauder, daughter of Robert Lauder of The Bass . When his father died, he inherited his lands in Clonyn in County Cavan, Ireland, and was naturalized as Irish on February 12, 1618 . His father was the second son of Sir Alexander Hamilton, Laird of Innerwick . From this grandfather he received his Irish possessions in County Cavan in 1621, namely Clonkine and Carrotubber, which he had acquired in 1610.

He was in the Irish Privy Council ( Privy Council added) and took under King James I at the Council of Munster part. King Charles I awarded him on September 29, 1628 in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia the hereditary title of Baronet , of Killaugh in the County of Cavan, raised. The title was associated with 16,000 acres of land in Nova Scotia , which he took possession of in November 1628.

On June 17, 1631 his lands in Clonkine, Carrotubber and Clonyn were combined into a single feudal barony around his residence Castle Killagh , which was henceforth called Castle Hamilton . His title of nobility is therefore sometimes referred to as Baronet, of Castle Hamilton in the County of Cavan .

From 1639 to 1648 he was a member of the Irish Parliament for the borough of Jamestown in County Leitrim and in 1661 for County Cavan .
