Innerwick ( Gaelic : Inbhir Mhuice ) is a village in the Scottish Council Area East Lothian or in the traditional county of Haddingtonshire . It is located about seven kilometers southeast of Dunbar and 30 kilometers northwest of Berwick-upon-Tweed near the North Sea coast.

history

Innerwick Castle was built on a rocky peak near Innerwick in the Middle Ages . Innerwick Castle was rebuilt in the 15th century before being finally destroyed in 1547 in the wake of Rough Wooing . The castle of Clan Stuart and later Clan Hamilton is still in ruins today.

The Innerwick Parish Church dates back to 1784. In Innerwick many historic buildings have been preserved. In addition to the monument protection on individual buildings, Innerwick and the surrounding area is protected as a Conservation Area . The Torness nuclear power plant is located east of the North Sea coast .

Between 1961 and 1991, Innerwick's population rose from 155 to 200.

Innerwick is located on an unclassified spur road off the A1 ( Edinburgh - London ), which connects the village to the trunk road network. In 1849 the North British Railway opened a station in Innerwick. The route is still operated today as the East Coast Main Line . However, Innerwick Railway Station was closed in June 1951.
