Francis Taylor (also Francis Tailler , Irish : Proinsias Táilliúir ) (* around 1550 in Swords , † January 30, 1621 in Dublin ) was Mayor of Dublin ( Mayor of Dublin ) and martyr .

Francis Taylor was born in Swords around 1550 to a wealthy family. In 1595 he was elected Mayor of Dublin and held that office until 1596. Taylor was also active as a layperson in the Archdiocese of Dublin .

Taylor was elected to the Irish House of Commons , but was refused his seat because, as a staunch Catholic, he refused to recognize the Supreme Act and the Act of Uniformity . As a result, he was imprisoned in late 1613 or early 1614 and died seven years later, on January 30, 1621, in a Dublin prison. Taylor was buried in the family grave at St Audeon's Church . He was married and had six children.

On September 27, 1992, he was selected as one of 17 Irish martyrs of Pope John Paul II. Beatified . Irish Martyrs' Remembrance Day is June 20th.

To the left of the main entrance to St Mary's Procathedral in Dublin is a bronze statue depicting Francis Taylor. Next to it is a bronze statue of Margaret Ball . Ball is also one of the 17 beatified Irish martyrs. She is also the grandmother of Taylor's wife.
