Francisco-Antonio de Lacy y Witte

Francisco-Antonio de Lacy y Witte (* 1731 in Ulster , † 1793 in Barcelona ) was a Spanish general and ambassador .

Life

Francisco Antonio de Lacy was the son of Guillermo de Lacy. De Lacy was Alférez the Wild Geese from Ulster in the service of Ferdinand VI. (Spain) and was promoted to colonel in 1762 . In 1763 Charles III sent him . (Spain) as Ministre plénipotentiaire to Gustav III. (Sweden) to Stockholm and in 1772 to Catherine II (Russia) to Saint Petersburg in Russia . In his letters from Saint Petersburg, he warned against a Russian engagement in California .

In 1780 he became commander of the artillery and was used in the siege of Gibraltar (1779–1783) . He married a daughter of the Marques d'Abbeville. From March 4, 1789 to December 31, 1792 he was Governor and Captain General of Catalonia .
