Life

Benkö, son of the Hungarian Richard Wilhelm Benkö and the Austrian Alice Josephine Helene Pick, said he was orphaned shortly before he joined Schwalbe in 1928. In order to escape the increasing hostility towards Jews during the Nazi era , Benkö, who was of Jewish descent on his mother's side, emigrated to Argentina with his sister Anne in 1936, where he stayed until his death. In the previous year, Erich Zepler, who was also a Jew, had emigrated to England after he had told his friend Benkö about his plans.

Francisco Benkö died of heart failure on January 11, 2010 at around 3:30 p.m. local time in the Policlínico Bancario in Buenos Aires.
