The holy Francisco Coll y Guitart OP (* 18th May 1812 in Gombrèn , Spain ; † 2. April 1875 ibid) was Chaplain of the Dominicans and is a saint of the Catholic Church . His Catholic feast day in the liturgy is April 2nd.

Life

Francisco Coll, the youngest of ten children from a working-class family, joined the Dominican religious order in 1828 . After studying philosophy and theology, he was ordained priest in 1838 .

He then worked as a pastor and missionary with the people of his rural homeland. In 1856 he founded the women's congregation “De la Anunciata” as a branch of the Third Order of St. Dominic for teaching and raising poor rural children. Francisco Coll went blind after a stroke in 1869 and died on April 2, 1875 in his birthplace.

Francisco Coll was born on April 29, 1979 by Pope John Paul II. Beatified and on 11 October 2009 by Pope Benedict XVI. canonized .
