Francisco Guerrero Marín (born July 7, 1951 in Linares , Andalusia , † October 19, 1997 in Madrid ) was a Spanish composer.

Life

A main compositional concern for Francisco Guerrero was the search for musical equivalents to natural phenomena. He dealt intensively with physical and mathematical principles, with the acquisition of the fractal geometry of B. Mandelbrot being the focus of this activity.

These studies led to a series of large-scale and extremely complex orchestral pieces ( Antar Atman (1980), Ariadna (1984), Sahara (1991), Oleada (1993) and Coma Berenices (1997)) as well as the cycle Zayin for one to four string instruments, which was composed from 1981 until the composer's unexpected death in 1997 as a commissioned composition for the Arditti Quartet .

Another project of the composer was the orchestration of the piano cycle Iberia by Isaac Albéniz , this task remained unfinished, Guerrero managed six orchestrations by his death.
