history
Francisco Ibáñez was working in a bank while he was publishing his first drawings.
In 1957 he decided to devote himself entirely to comics and went to Bruguera publishing house, where he became one of the key authors.
In 1958, the first issue of Mortadelo y Filemón appeared in Pulgarcito magazine . From then on and during the 1960s, Ibáñez created some of his most successful characters for various publications by the publisher: La familia Trapisonda ( Pulgarcito nº 1418, July 7, 1958), 13, Rue del Percebe ( Tío Vivo , 1961), El botones Sacarino ( El DDT , 1963), rompetechos ( Tío Vivo , 1964) and Pepe Gotera y Otilio ( Tío Vivo , 1966).
In 1985 Ibáñez left the Bruguera publishing house and started working for Grijalbo . Bruguera had reserved the rights to his characters, so Ibáñez had to create new characters for the magazine “ Guai! “Invent: This is how Chicha, Tato y Clodoveo, de profesión sin empleo and much later 7, Rebolling Street came about .
In 1988 he moved to Ediciones B , the publisher that had 'inherited' the copyrights of Bruguera , and from then on he completed six new albums by Mortadelo y Filemón every year , which incorporated plenty of time-related elements and fads.
In 1994 he received the Grand Prize of the Salón del Cómic de Barcelona for his complete works and in 2001 he was awarded the Golden Medal of Merit for Fine Arts.
