Francisco Ynduráin Hernández

Francisco Ynduráin Hernández (born June 25, 1910 in Aoiz , Navarra , † October 25, 1994 in Madrid ) was a Spanish Romance scholar , Hispanist and Americanist.

life and work

Ynduráin was a student of Miguel de Unamuno at the University of Salamanca and received his doctorate in Madrid in 1940. He taught from 1942 to 1972 at the University of Zaragoza (where he was also Vice-Rector), then at the Complutense University of Madrid .

Ynduráin published numerous studies on Spanish literature, as well as works on French and American authors.

Ynduráin was a corresponding member of the Real Academia Española from 1966 . A literary prize for young authors has been named after him since 1987. In 1994 he received the Premio Príncipe de Viana de la Cultura . The Aoiz community made him an honorary citizen and named a street after him.

Francisco Ynduráin Hernández was the father of the physicist Francisco José Ynduráin and the Romance scholar Domingo Ynduráin Muñoz (1943-2003).
