Francisco da Costa Soares (battle name: Borlaco , Borlaku ) is a politician from East Timor .

Career

During the IV government he was director general at the Ministry of Finance. On August 8th, 2012 Soares was sworn in as State Secretary for Institutional Development of the 5th Government . He later became a member of the Partido Democrático and deputy general secretary of the party.

On January 24, 2013, the public prosecutor's office formally charged Soares with suspected abuse of office and tax fraud. He is said to have been illegally involved in a government contract to purchase Toyota Prado vehicles for MPs. The allegations relate to his time as director general. However, the government put pressure on the national parliament so that Soares' immunity would not be lifted. Therefore, the investigation was initially held.

In the VI. Government , which was sworn in on February 16, 2015, was supposed to remain State Secretary for Soares, but he resigned his office due to the ongoing investigations against him. Soares came to the swearing-in ceremony, but did not take part, so his office remained vacant .

On September 15, 2017, Soares was sentenced to seven years in prison and a payment of US $ 106,000 for irregularities in the construction of Baucau Hospital.
