Career

society

Solana played for Real Madrid in his youth and was considered a great talent. From 1983 he ran for Castilla CF , the club's second team. On Matchday 31 of the 1985/86 season he made his debut in the Primera División under coach Luis Molowny . By the end of the season he contested a total of four league games and won with the Royal Spanish championship. In addition, at the end of the season he was on the starting line-up in both final matches of the 1985/86 UEFA Cup against 1. FC Köln and celebrated defending the European Cup with Madrid. In the 1986/87 season Solana finally developed into a regular player with 34 league appearances. He won the championship five times in a row with Real Madrid between 1986 and 1990, the Supercopa de España three times in a row between 1988 and 1990 and the Spanish Cup in 1989 . Due to injuries and competition from Julio Llorente and Esteban , however, his position was never undisputed and only came back to more than 25 league games in the 1990/91 season .

In 1991 Solana left the Spanish capital and joined Real Saragossa . In 1993 he moved to the cup final with the club from Aragon under coach Víctor Fernández for the first time, but lost it to his ex-club Real Madrid. When they reached the finals again in 1994 , Zaragoza won the Copa del Rey on penalties against Celta Vigo and qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup 1994/95 . There, Solana and his team moved into the memorable final against Arsenal after victories against top-class players like Feyenoord Rotterdam or Chelsea FC , which Saragossa won 2-1 with a goal by Nayim from 40 meters away after extra time. The club thus triumphed in an international competition for the first time since its success in the Messestädte-Pokal in 1963/64 . By the time he retired in 2000, Solana played over 300 competitive games for the Aragonese in nine years.
