Francisco da Hornay II

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Topasse Francisco da Hornay II was Captain General ( Capitão-mor ) of Solor and Timor and ruler of the Topasse.

Francisco comes from the Hornay family clan, who, alongside that of the Costas, were the rulers of the Topasse. He succeeded Domingos da Costa after his death in 1722 in the rule and also received the title of General Captain of Solor and Timor. This was originally awarded by the Portuguese viceroy in Goa , but was ultimately synonymous with the claim to rule over the topasse of the Lesser Sunda Islands .

Francisco, however, was hostile to the Portuguese. Between 1722 and 1725 he besieged the Portuguese governor António de Albuquerque Coelho in the colonial capital of Lifau . His successor António Moniz de Macedo in 1726/27 felt the same way over a longer period of time.
