Participation in competitions

World championships

The team took second place at the 2010 Asian Championships and qualified for the first time to take part in a handball world championship . At the 2011 World Cup in Sweden , the team played in group A against France, Spain, Germany, Tunisia and Egypt. The team won against Egypt, but still finished bottom of the group. With a win against Australia, Bahrain finished the tournament in 23rd and penultimate place.

Second in the 2014 Asian Cup, Bahrain qualified for the 2015 World Cup in Qatar, but announced in November 2014 that it would not participate in the World Cup. Exact reasons for the waiver were not known, but it is suspected that this could have political backgrounds. Shortly afterwards, the association declared that it wanted to take part in the World Cup, but this time the IHF was excluded, which re-allocated the place at the World Cup finals.

Once again in second place at the Asian Championships, the team qualified for the 2017 and 2019 World Championships , won one game there and finished 23rd and 20th.
