Franciscus Chemnitz

Franciscus Chemnitz , actually Franz Chemnitz (born August 23, 1609 in Stettin ; † January 16, 1656 near Braunsberg ; ennobled as Franz von Chemnitz ), was a German physician and senior military doctor in the Swedish army.

Life

Franciscus Chemnitz was the fourth son of Martin Chemnitz (1561–1627) and Margarethe Camerarius. After studying medicine, he stayed with French war troops for several years. In 1631 he received his doctorate in medicine. He later became the personal physician of the Swedish Field Marshal Carl Gustav Wrangel . This appointed him the chief doctor in the Swedish army.

Franciscus Chemnitz fell near Braunsberg in 1656 during the Swedish-Polish War . He was married to Clara Euphrosyne von Neumark since 1653. Her son Franz von Chemnitz (1656–1715), later a judge at the Greifswald court and at the Wismar tribunal , was born after his father's death.
