Life
Kniaźnin entered the Jesuit order, became a teacher at the Jesuit College in Warsaw and, after the order was dissolved, secretary to Prince Adam Czartoryski . He first made himself known in Warsaw in 1770 for his translation of Horace .
This was followed by several dramas, some of which, such as Die dreifache Marriage , Die Zigeuner and The Spartan Mother , were performed with applause, as well as idylls, odes, fables and Latin poems.
He is important as a lyric poet, but he often becomes pompous in his odes. A collection of his works appeared in Warsaw from 1828 to 1829 in seven volumes.
