Franco Leoni

Franco Leoni (born October 24, 1864 in Milan , † February 8, 1949 in Dover ) was an Italian composer.

Leoni studied at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan with Amilcare Ponchielli and Cesare Dominiceti . After the success of his first opera Raggio di luna (1888) he went to England. Several of his operas were premiered there at Covent Garden Opera , the most successful of which was L'Oracolo . This was premiered in 1905 with Antonio Scotti in the lead role, who also sang it at the Metropolitan Opera from 1915 . In 1917 he returned to Italy, where he performed other operas. In addition to operas, Leoni also composed a number of sacred choral works.
