The Francotyp-Postalia Holding AG (FP), based in Berlin , is an international manufacturer of franking machines and service provider for the outgoing mail market. The company develops, manufactures and sells franking machines , folding machines , and inserting machines and offers related services. Pure postal services have also been offered since 2006. According to its own information, the company is the market leader in Germany with a current market share of 42% and the third largest provider worldwide.

In November 2006 the company went public on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and bought two companies. It was the postal service provider “freesort GmbH” from Düsseldorf and “iab internet access GmbH”, Berlin, which specializes in hybrid mail and outsourcing . In 2011, FP acquired 51% of "Mentana-Claimsoft GmbH"; by 2014 this share was increased to 100%. Mentana-Claimsoft is a digital communication company. In 2012, this subsidiary was the first company to be accredited as a De-Mail provider by the Federal Office for Information Security .

It is distributed through subsidiaries in the USA, Canada, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Austria. In addition, 80 dealers worldwide work for the group. The German sales subsidiary, Francotyp-Postalia Vertrieb und Service GmbH (FP VSG), looks after the German market and sells franking and inserting machines. Its headquarters are also in Berlin and it mainly looks after companies and authorities.

history

On July 11, 1923, the Anker factory in Bielefeld , “Bafra” in Berlin and the “Furtwängler watch factory” in Furtwangen founded the sales company “Postfreistempler GmbH” in Bielefeld. In 1925 Postfreistempler GmbH was renamed "Francotyp GmbH" based in Berlin. The company Telefonbau und Normalzeit (T&N) founded the "Freistempler GmbH", Frankfurt / M., The later "Postalia GmbH" in 1938. In 1969, Anker-Werke, Bielefeld, acquired the shares in Freistempler GmbH from T&N. Francotyp GmbH, Berlin, and Postalia GmbH, Offenbach, were taken over in 1977 by “ Bergmann AG ”, which belongs to the Siemens group . The parent company "Francotyp-Postalia GmbH" was founded in 1983. Six years later, " Gebr. Röchling KG ", Mannheim, took over the Bergmann Group and thus Francotyp-Postalia.

In 1990 the first fully electronic franking machine with thermal transfer printing came onto the market. In 1994, Francotyp-Postalia moved into a new headquarters in Birkenwerder near Berlin with its factory, technology and administration . In 1997 “FP-Direkt” was founded for telephone sales . In 2014 the company moved back to Berlin.

In 2002 a new generation of franking machines was developed, which was approved for franking in 2004. In 2005, the FP Group was bought by "Quadriga Capital" and the management. Francotyp-Postalia Holding AG was founded one year later . Then “freesort GmbH” and “iab internet access GmbH” were bought. Francotyp-Postalia Holding AG went public on November 30, 2006. In 2007, a high-tech franking machine called “centormail” appeared on the market. In 2008 production was expanded to include folding machines. In 2010 the FP Group won Web.de as a partner for the online letter. Francotyp-Postalia Holding AG acquired Mentana-Claimsoft AG in 2011. In 2012, the product launch of the "PostBase" franking system took place. The FP subsidiary Mentana-Claimsoft was the first De-Mail service provider to be accredited by the Federal Office for Information Security.
