Frane Matošić (born November 25, 1918 in Split ; † October 29, 2007 ibid) was a Yugoslav football player and coach. Due to his longstanding membership in the club as a player and coach, he is particularly associated with Hajduk Split .

Athletic career

Matošić played in the Hajduk Split competition team from the mid-1930s. In 1938 the striker moved to Belgrade SK during his military service , with whom he won the Yugoslav championship in 1939. Then he returned to his hometown club, with which he won the championship in Banat Croatia in 1941 after the collapse of the nationwide game operations after the start of the Second World War . After Italy annexed Split in 1941, Hajduk Split decided not to participate in Italian gaming. Then Matošić moved to Serie A for AGC Bologna . After the liberation of Split by the Allies, he returned and played for the club until the end of his career in 1955. In 1950, 1952 and 1955 he won the championship with the club, in 1949 he was the top scorer in the Yugoslav championship.

At times, Matošić was active in the Yugoslav national team , for which he scored six goals in 16 games. His national team career was interrupted due to the war.

Later Matošić worked several times as a coach both for Hajduk and local rivals RNK Split . In 1960 he rose to the first division with RNK. Between 1961 and 1963 he was the successor to his compatriot Milan Kristić as the selection coach of the Tunisian national team , at the Africa Cup in 1962 the team took third place under his leadership.
