Franz-Josef "Franjo" Grotenhermen (born July 5, 1957 in Robringhausen ) is a German doctor and author. He is best known as a scientific and medical advocate of the use of cannabis as a medicine .

Life

Franjo Grotenhermen studied medicine at the University of Cologne and in 1996 with summa cum laude to the Dr. med. PhD. Until his illness-related retirement in 1992, he worked as a doctor in the field of internal medicine , surgery and naturopathic treatment and today works in his practice in Steinheim primarily on the treatment of diseases with a focus on therapy with cannabis and cannabinoids . He is also a research assistant at the nova-Institut GmbH in Hürth in the renewable raw materials department, where he also deals with hemp as a medicinal product.

For several years, Grotenhermen has suffered from microangiopathy and a microcirculation disorder (small vessel disease), a malfunction of the endothelial cells that line the inner walls of the blood vessels, and thus from a reduced blood flow to the small blood vessels and organs. As a result of this disease, he suffers from ailments of his cardiovascular system with heart problems and a disorder of the orthostasis , which forces him to be largely bedridden.

Grotenhermen is the managing director of the International Association for Cannabinoid Medicines (IACM) and co-founder and chairman of the German section Working Group on Cannabis as Medicine (ACM).
