Franjo Klopotan

Franjo Klopotan (born September 16, 1938 in Presečno near Novi Marof, Varaždin County , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian painter, draftsman and graphic artist.

Life

Klopotan attended elementary school and high school in Varaždin and trained as a photographer. He then trained as a nurse at the Medical School in Zagreb . He practiced this profession in the Rebro hospital in Zagreb .

Since 1959, Klopotan began to capture fantasies and dream worlds on paper, glass and canvas. His representations in the manner of naive art attracted attention and were exhibited from 1962, among other things, in his workplace. In 1965 he went to Hamburg and began a three-year training course as a gravure retoucher . During this time his style developed, first exhibitions in Germany took place in Hamburg and Cologne. He worked for German magazines such as Hör zu , Quick and Neue Revue before moving back to Yugoslavia in 1970.

Over the next thirty years, Klopotan has shown his works in more than fifty exhibitions, for example in 1995 in the City Museum in Varaždin. In Germany he became known for his prints.
