Frank Aehlig (born January 26, 1968 in Dresden ) is a German football official .

Career

Aehlig was presented on September 1, 1997 as a full-time managing director at SG Dynamo Dresden in the 3rd division. Before that, he had managed what was then FV Dresden-Nord (today SC Borea Dresden ) as honorary managing director since 1993 and was also active in this club as a player up to the league division.

On March 20, 2000 he announced his resignation at SG Dynamo Dresden and took over the position of technical director on May 1, 2000 and the position of sports director of the second division SSV Reutlingen 05 on July 1, 2001 . He left this on March 31, 2002 and accepted an offer from Bayern division FC Augsburg as managing director.

The FCA President Walther Seinsch terminated the three-year contract on August 7, 2002 without notice. The Augsburg Labor Court ruled on March 3, 2003 that the pronounced termination without notice was not legal and declared the employment relationship to be effective. The parties then agreed on a termination agreement.

Aehlig was then signed on November 8, 2003 by LR Ahlen as manager. After two relegation in the 2nd Bundesliga, he made a move to 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the Bundesliga on May 1, 2006 .

There he also worked as a manager. With the appointment of Stefan Kuntz as CEO of 1. FC Kaiserslautern in April 2008, however, he took over large parts of Aehlig's area of ​​responsibility. As a result, 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Aehlig agreed to terminate their contract, which ran until June 30, 2009, one year ahead of schedule.

Aehlig joined VfL Wolfsburg on May 25, 2009 . At first he acted as assistant to the managing director Sport Armin Veh , from February 2010 then as team manager under the new chairman of the management board Dieter Hoeneß . Aehlig was released from the performance of his work by Felix Magath , who had meanwhile returned to Wolfsburg as Managing Director Sport , but was still under contract with VfL Wolfsburg until June 30, 2013.

In August 2014, Aehlig was hired by RB Leipzig as sports coordinator to support sports director Ralf Rangnick .

On December 15, 2017, his change as of January 1, 2018 as head of the licensed player department at 1. FC Köln was announced. He received a contract until 2020.

Frank Aehlig is married to the former German national soccer player Shelley Thompson .
