Frank Ballard (4th quarter 1876 in Long Eaton , † June 8, 1902 ibid) was an English football player .

Career

Ballard played for the Long Eaton Rangers in the Midland League and reached with the club in 1897, the main round of the FA Cup (0: 1 against Gainsborough Trinity ) before 1898 together with his teammate Bernie Fulwood for one season in the Football League Second Division to Leicester Fosse changed. Presented at Leicester as a “solid defender”, he succeeded - probably also handicapped by an ankle injury. - not asserting himself in the defense positions against Jack Walker and George Swift . He represented both competitors only once during the season. For the following season Ballard moved - together with Fulwood - back to the Midland League, in which he had also played with the Leicester reserves, to Ilkeston Town .

Apart from football, Ballard earned his living in the textile trade ( lace worker ) at Long Eaton. Ballard died unexpectedly on the night of June 8, 1902. A judicial investigation into the cause of death suggested that heart disease was the most likely cause of death.
