Frank Conrad

Frank Conrad (born May 4, 1874 in Pittsburgh , † December 11, 1941 in Miami ) was an American radio pioneer.

In addition to his professional activity as an engineer for the Westinghouse Electric Corporation , Frank Conrad began, after a few experiments of his own receiving signals from the transmitter of the Naval Observatory , in 1916 with private attempts to transmit his amateur station 8XK. Initially, these were music broadcasts from records . After the interruption of the First World War , this activity resulted in the present radio and television station KDKA in Pittsburgh in 1921 .

Frank Conrad received an honorary doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh in 1928 and the IEEE Edison Medal in 1930 . Conrad held over 200 patents.
