Frank Enke (born January 8, 1953 ) is a former German football player who was active from 1972 to 1978 for Halleschen FC Chemie in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . Enke is also a multiple junior and junior national player of the GDR.

Athletic career

Enke began his career as a football player with the company sports association (BSG) "Tractor" in Uichteritz near Weißenfels . In 1970 and 1971 he was a member of the GDR junior national team , for which he played eight international matches. In the 1970/71 season he made his first men's games for Halleschen FC. He was first used in the GDR league team HFC II, where he played ten point games. In 1971/72 he was a regular in the 2nd team with 19 appearances in 22 point games, but also came to his first league game. He played this on the 14th matchday as a left winger in the 1: 3 away defeat at Hansa Rostock . It remained in a league use this season. In 1972/73 he was able to increase his league stakes to ten games, but was only in the starting line-up twice. With twelve point games, his use in the 2nd team still predominated. Enke, however, achieved the inclusion in the squad of the GDR youth national team , with which he played five international matches until 1975. Since the first team of the HFC had to relegate at the end of the season 1972/73 from the league, the HFC II played 1973/74 in the third-rate district league , where Enke played most of the games. He was only involved with eight missions and four goals in the immediate resurgence of the 1st team. In the new league season 1974/75 Enke finally made the breakthrough, because in the 26 point games he was called up 21 times, even if only eleven times from the start. 1975/76 was again downgraded to the 2nd team, which had returned from the district league in the GDR league. There Enke made 17 missions in 22 point games for the relay victory, while he only came to a brief mission in the major league. In the following two seasons, Enke did not really get a chance in the league, in 1976/77 there was only one game on the books, in 1977/78 he made five appearances. Since the second teams of the league clubs had been dissolved from the 1976/77 season, Hallesche FC saw no prospects for Enke and delegated him to the GDR league team BSG Progress Weissenfels in the summer of 1978 .

In his first season at Progress Weissenfels, Enke had a good debut in 1978/79, because he played all 22 point games and with his 13 goals was the top scorer of the league season C. Nevertheless, he could not save his team from relegation to the district league. Progress Weissenfels only managed to return to the GDR league in 1983. As team captain Enke went with the progress team in the GDR league season 1983/84 and completed 17 of the 22 point games. Since the GDR league was played with two seasons instead of five in the next season, the Weißenfelsern ranked ninth was not enough to keep them up. Since progress in Weißenfels did not return to higher-class football in the following years, this meant the end of his career in performance-related football for the 31-year-old Frank Enke. Within 15 years he had made 37 league games (1 goal) and 107 games (30 goals) in the second-rate GDR league.
