Frank Herbert Heltzig (born November 10, 1939 in Dresden ) is a German physicist and politician ( SPD ).

education and profession

After an apprenticeship as a materials tester in Freital , Heltzig studied physics at the TU Dresden . In 1976 he was with a thesis on large combinatorial switching systems based on non-canonical normal forms of bundles of partial Computer assisted design of Boolean functions to Dr. rer. nat. PhD. From 1966 to 1970 he worked as a problem analyst in the computer center of the Institute for Data Processing in Dresden. Later he was a research assistant at the Central Institute for Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR . After the fall of the Wall he was Head of Information Services in the Saxon State Parliament and in 1995 he became Chairman of the Saxony State Association of Workers' Welfare .

politics

Heltzig was a co-founder of the SDP in Dresden in November 1989 and became the first chairman of its Dresden city association. Since December 1989 he has been a member of the Dresden city council. In March 1990 he was elected to the People's Chamber for the SPD in the Dresden constituency. In October 1990 he was one of the 144 MPs sent to the Bundestag by the People's Chamber . He was a member of the Bundestag until December 1990. Later Heltzig was active in local politics in the district assembly of the Weißeritz district .
