Frank Louwen

Frank Andre Louwen (born January 13, 1962 ) is a German doctor and professor at the University Hospital of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , specializing in obstetrics and prenatal medicine .

Life

Louwen studied human medicine at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster between 1983 and 1989 and received his doctorate in 1993 on the subject of definition criteria for the HELLP syndrome .

Between 1989 and 1994 he received his license to practice medicine and after further training as a gynecologist at the University Women's Clinic in Münster, he was recognized as a specialist, appointed senior physician and the following year he was appointed senior physician at the clinic.

In 2002 he was appointed to the professorship for obstetrics and perinatology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. Since his appointment to the professorship for obstetrics and prenatal medicine, he has headed this focus as well as the perinatal center at the Frankfurt University Hospital. His work and research focus are complications in obesity and hypertensive disorders during pregnancy ( preeclampsia , HELLP syndrome) as well as the care and delivery of multiple pregnancies and breech births.

In addition to voluntary board work in international and national specialist societies, he is chairman of the board of the German Foundation for Women's Health and chairman of the board of profamilia Hessen.

Louwen is married and has two children.

Awards

  • Scientific prize of the German Society for Perinatal Medicine, Berlin 2006
  • Scientific video award of the German Society for Perinatal Medicine 23rd Congress of the German Society for Perinatal Medicine Berlin 2007
  • Honorary doctorate ( Dr. hc ) from the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, St. Petersburg, for contributions to innovation in obstetrics, in particular the therapy of HELLP syndrome and breech birth.
