Athletic career

At the age of 18, Frank Meschwitz began his career in the two upper GDR divisions. In the 1970/71 season he was part of the squad of the GDR league team of Chemie Leipzig II. In the 30 point games played, he was used 20 times and scored one goal. Since then the first team was relegated from the league, Chemistry II had to compete in the third-class district league in 1971/72 . There, too, Meschwitz was back in the squad. In addition to his six district leagues, he was also involved with a hit in the 2-1 victory in the district cup final over Motor Grimma . Meschwitz only contributed to the promotion of the first team to the league with a 32-minute assignment as a substitute. For the 1972/73 season he was nominated for the league team of Chemie Leipzig, but came there only once when he was substituted on the 3rd match day in the 75th minute for striker Fritz Less . In November 1972 Meschwitz began his military service in the National People's Army . There he was able to play football with the Army Sports Association (ASG) Vorwärts Meiningen and came to four missions in the 1973/74 season in the GDR league. After this season the ASG was transferred to Plauen , where Meschwitz played eight more GDR league games (two goals). In the 1975/76 season he played again for BSG Chemie Leipzig, which was again represented in the major league. However, the BSG nominated him for their 2nd team, which continued to play in the district league. In the league, Meschwitz came back only as a substitute for two short appearances over 24 and 22 minutes. It was his last of six seasons in high-class football. During this time he came to three league games (without a goal) and 33 GDR league appearances (three goals).
