Frank Perkins (composer)

Frank Perkins (full name Frank Sutherland Perkins, Jr , born April 21, 1908 in Salem , Massachusetts , † March 15, 1988 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American composer and conductor who was also active in the field of film music.

Life

Perkins holds a PhD in economics from Brown University . From 1929 he appeared as a composer. From the late 1930s he worked for Warner Bros. operates. He worked regularly with the songwriter Mitchell Parish . He got greater fame through the song Stars Fell on Alabama , composed in 1934 , which became a jazz standard .

For his work on Gypsy - Queen of the Night Perkins was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Film Music in 1963 .
