Frank Stein

Frank Stein (born August 29, 1954 ) is a former German soccer player. Between 1975 and 1982 he played for the BSG Wismut Aue in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

At the age of 15, Frank Stein was accepted into the youth department of the company sports association (BSG) Wismut Aue in 1969. In 1974 he rose with the 2nd team of Wismut Aue from the district league Karl-Marx-Stadt in the second-rate GDR league . Also for the season 1974/75 Stein was registered for the squad of the 2nd team, with which 20 of the 22 GDR league games completed and with nine goals became the top scorer of the team. At the end of the season he was first used in four league games as a substitute, on the final day of the league he was in the starting eleven for 73 minutes and scored his first league goal. It was the opening goal for the 2-1 victory over FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt . For the season 1975/76 stone was officially included in the squad of the league team. He also played the first three league games, but was then used again in the 2nd team. After completing six GDR league games there, in which he scored four goals, he was drafted into the National People's Army for 18 months in November 1975 . For the 1977/78 season he returned to BSG Wismut Aue, where he was again nominated for the league team. By the end of the 1981/82 season, Stein had played 108 out of 130 league games. He was in the starting eleven 79 times and only played 47 games over the entire game. He scored the most goals, usually called up as a winger, in the 1978/79 season when he scored eight goals. At the age of 27, Stein started his last season in competitive football in 1981. After his last 18 league games, in which he scored two more goals, he ended his career in the GDR-wide soccer game. After eight seasons he had come to 113 league games with 17 goals and 26 GDR league games with 13 goals, all of which he had played for BSG Wismut Aue.
