Frank Manfred Stein (born May 23, 1963 in Bensberg ) is a German municipal official and politician ( SPD ). Since October 1st, 2017 he has been treasurer and deputy for law, security and order as well as for youth and social affairs of the city ​​of Bergisch Gladbach . In the local elections on September 13, 2020, he will run as the joint candidate of the SPD, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and FDP for the mayor's office .

Life

Frank Stein was born on May 23, 1963 in Bensberg (since January 1, 1975 in Bergisch Gladbach). He grew up in a Catholic working -class household in Engelskirchen . His father was a skilled worker at the Ford factory in Cologne , his mother a tailor . After graduating from the Aggertalgymnasium in Engelskirchen and completing his military service in Stade , he studied law at the University of Cologne from 1983 to 1989 . He completed his studies with the second state examination and initially worked as an in-house attorney at TÜV Rheinland , then from 1993 to 2000 as a finance officer for the German and North Rhine-Westphalian Association of Towns and Municipalities .

From 2000 Frank Stein was for a period of 13 years councilor for citizens, environment and social affairs of the city ​​of Leverkusen . In 2013 the City Council of Leverkusen elected him treasurer and alderman for law and security and general representative of the mayor . After more than 17 years as a municipal civil servant in Leverkusen, in which he gained wide recognition as a proven budget and financial expert, Stein moved to the neighboring town of Bergisch Gladbach in 2017, where he has since held the office of treasurer and councilor for law, security and order as well as for youth and social clothes.

Frank Stein was politically shaped at a young age by the social-liberal coalition of the SPD and FDP. At the age of 23 he joined the SPD, from 1992 to 2000 he was a member of the Engelskirchen community council, most recently as chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. Frank Stein has been committed to municipal environmental and climate protection since he was the head of the environment department for the city of Leverkusen. In the local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia on September 13, 2020, he will stand in Bergisch Gladbach for a party alliance made up of the SPD, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and FDP as a joint mayoral candidate.

Frank Stein is married and has two children. Frank Stein's hobby is running a marathon . In 2019 he completed the Berlin Marathon in under four hours.

Frank Stein is the recipient of the German Fire Brigade Medal of Honor of the German Fire Brigade Association and an honorary member of the Leverkusen City Fire Brigade Association . Stein is a member of the non-partisan European Union . He is also the honorary chairman of the supervisory board of Lebenshilfe Werkstätten Leverkusen / Rheinberg.
