Frank Stephen Meighen

Frank Stephen Meighen (born December 26, 1870 in Perth / Ontario , † January 19, 1946 in Montreal ) was a Canadian officer , impresario and patron of the arts .

Meighen prospered as a businessman before World War I. He studied piano with Paul Letondal and was a passionate opera lover. With Albert Clerk-Jeannotte he founded the Montreal Musical Society (later Montreal Opera Companie ) in 1910 , which he financed with more than $ 100,000. The company gave over three hundred performances in Montreal and other cities in Canada and the United States in three seasons.

During the First World War he served as a Lieutenant Colonel and later General on the front lines. On his return to Canada he financed the concerts of the Canadian Grenadier Guards Band from 1919 to 1924 . From 1927 to 1929 he was President of Jean-Josaphat Gagnier's Montreal Symphony Orchestra (MSO). From 1936 he was a member of the board of directors of the Montreal Festivals Society and other music initiatives, including the MSO.

Meighen was appointed Compagnon des l ' Ordre de Saint-Michel et de Saint-Georges in 1915 and Officier of the Légion d'honneur in 1924.
