Frank Tallis

Frank Tallis (born September 1, 1958 in Stoke Newington , London ) is a clinical psychologist , essayist and crime novelist. His area of expertise in psychology are obsessive-compulsive disorder ( obsessive-compulsive disorder or OCD ). He has also written horror novels under the name FR Tallis . He has received several awards for his crime novels.

Life

Frank Tallis grew up in Tottenham , a London borough characterized by ethnic diversity and social tensions, and attended a Secondary Modern School there . After leaving school, he led an unsettled life, played in a rock band, married and lived for a while with his wife and child in the country. After the divorce, he began studying psychology. After completing his education, he worked for the NHS for extended periods , taught at King's College , London, and treated private patients. He has been a full-time writer since the late 2000s. Frank Tallis lives in London.

Tallis has published more than 30 articles in psychology and psychiatry journals. He has written four popular science books on psychology, of which only "The Incurable Romantic and Other Unsettling Revelations" (German = The Incurable Romantic and Other Stories from Psychotherapy ) had been translated into German until 2019 . In this book, which he illustrated with examples from his therapeutic practice, Tallis deals with the phenomenon of love and especially with obsessive love .

Tallis has been writing detective novels since 2005, which are published in German as “Die Max Liebermann Krimis” and which are set in Vienna at the turn of the century. The two main characters are the Viennese police inspector Oscar Reinhardt and his friend and advisor, the psychiatrist Max Liebermann. Liebermann is a student of Sigmund Freud and a regular guest in his apartment at Berggasse 19 .

Movie

Since October 2018, the first three episodes of the Liebermann series based on novels by Frank Tallis have been produced in a cooperation between ZDF and ORF . Directed by Robert Dornhelm (part 1) and Umut Dağ (parts 2 and 3). The title role is played by Matthew Beard . The script was written by the British Steve Thompson . The series, filmed in English, is marketed by Red Arrow Studios worldwide under the title “Vienna Blood”. Tallis himself wrote the script for an episode of the Urban Gothic series.
