Frank Torsten Hufert

Frank Torsten Hufert (born October 20, 1958 in Hamburg ) is a German doctor and university professor . He has been director of the Institute for Microbiology and Virology at the Brandenburg Medical School since 2014 .

Career

Frank Hufert passed his Abitur in Hamburg in 1977. He studied human medicine at the University of Hamburg from 1979 to 1985 and received his license to practice medicine in 1986 , whereupon he did his military service in the Bundeswehr Hospital in Hamburg from 1986 to 1987 . From 1987 to 1992 he worked at the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine , where he received his doctorate in the field of tropical virology in 1988 . From 1992 onwards, Hufert worked in the Virology Department at the Institute for Microbiology and Hygiene at the Freiburg University Medical Center. In the meantime, he received his specialist certification for microbiology and infection epidemiology in 1994 , and his habilitation in virology at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg in 1996 . After being appointed adjunct professor at the University of Freiburg in 2001, he accepted an appointment at the Georg-August University of Göttingen in 2005 , where he was Professor, Senior Consultant and Director of the Institute of Virology until 2014. Since 2014, Hufert has been director of the Institute for Microbiology and Virology at the Brandenburg Medical School and at the same time a member of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the Brandenburg Technical University .
