The Frankfurt travelogue was written in autumn 1932 on the occasion of a medical treatment by Ahmet Haşim at the Frankfurt University Hospital with Franz Volhard . In it he describes his observations in Frankfurt am Main , the decline of the city during the economic crisis and the rise of National Socialism . The Frankfurt travelogue consists of a number of short, diary-like essays that initially appeared individually in the Milliyet daily from December 1932 . In the spring of 1933, Ahmet Haşim prepared the texts for a complete publication. They appeared in book form shortly after his death on June 4, 1933.

The Frankfurt travelogue is considered an important literary text about Germany in Turkey and, in the years following its publication in 1933, had an impact on the Turkish public's image of Germany. The book is still read in Turkish school lessons today.
