Frankfurt Biotechnology Innovation Center

The Frankfurt Biotechnology Innovation Center ( FIZ ) is a GmbH of the State of Hesse , the City of Frankfurt am Main and the Frankfurt am Main Chamber of Commerce . It provides research companies in the biotechnology industry with an infrastructure that is intended to enable the step from academic research to industrial production. It is located in the new district of Frankfurt-Riedberg in the immediate vicinity of the natural science campus of the University of Frankfurt am Main and the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies .

history

In 2000, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft carried out a feasibility study on behalf of Frankfurter Wirtschaftsförderung GmbH, the IHK Frankfurt am Main and the Hessian Technology Foundation and recommended that an innovation center be set up to promote biotechnology in the Rhine-Main region . The GmbH was founded in June 2002 with the aim of providing new impetus for the research location FrankfurtRheinMain by creating a flexible infrastructure for small and medium-sized companies in the life sciences sector and by offering a platform that promotes technology transfer between research and industry. On the public-private partnership that are state of Hesse , the city of Frankfurt am Main and the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce involved.

Infraserv Höchst was awarded the contract to construct the laboratory building. As the operator of the Höchst industrial park, it has experience in the construction and operation of research and development facilities. In July 2004, the first construction phase with approx. 6,500 square meters was opened, at the end of 2008 the first expansion area with approx. 8,500 square meters of office and laboratory space. The Frankfurt-based company Merz Pharma is currently the largest user of the FIZ .

FIZ Life Sciences Forum

FIZ, together with its two partners PricewaterhouseCoopers AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung GmbH , initiated a key conference in 2009 - the FIZ Life Sciences Forum . The patrons were the Hessian Prime Minister Roland Koch and Patrick Adenauer , President of the Association Die Familienunternehmer - ASU e. V.
