Frankfurter Strasse 1 (Limburg an der Lahn)
The house at Frankfurter Straße 1 is a listed half-timbered house on Bischofsplatz in the central Hessian city of Limburg an der Lahn in the Limburg-Weilburg district .
Ownership history
The building is mentioned in 1392 as the residence of Tilemann Elhen von Wolfhagen , the author of the Limburg Chronicle and namesake of the municipal Tilemann School . He lived here with his wife Grete , the daughter of the Limburg alder Hermann Boppe . In the middle of the 16th century the house was owned by Christoffel Steinbach , who died around 1560.
After the end of the Thirty Years War Jost Jorgenthiel from Elz set up a bakery in the house in the 17th century, which existed well into the 20th century. A renovation is known for the period from 1828 to 1831, which was initiated by Anna and Elisabeth Brückmann . In 1880 the house was owned by the baker Joseph Kaiser and his wife Bertha Hilf , who a year later had the shop entrance redesigned to its present form. With the expansion of the rear building and its basement, further conversions followed in 1889 at her request.
After the end of the Second World War , the baker Heinrich Strunk had the walls on the ground floor replaced in solid construction. In addition, a coffee shop will be set up in the front building.
The house is a listed building for historical and - due to its exposed location on Bischofsplatz - urban planning reasons and is part of the overall complex of the old town and Frankfurt suburb .
architecture
The three-storey, plastered house stands on a vaulted cellar from the 14th century, which is connected to the cellar of the rear building, which was built at the end of the 19th century. Due to the construction and proportions of storeys and roof, it is assumed that parts of the framework also date from the late 14th century.
The front building has a protruding second floor, the gable is slated . The eaves side has six irregular window axes , the shop entrance, built in 1881, is decorated with rich wood carvings showing baker's insignia.
The rear building, which was expanded in 1889, has a wide protrusion from the first floor.
