Frans-Andries Durlet
Frans-Andries , also François André or Franciscus Andreas Durlet , (born July 11, 1816 in Antwerp , † March 2, 1867 there ) was a Belgian architect , sculptor and graphic artist .
Life
Durlet taught in Antwerp at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and was the founder-conservator of the Steen Museum there. Even Pierre Cuypers was one of his architecture students.
Durlet led the restoration work on Antwerp's Cathedral of Our Lady and designed its choir stalls. He is considered an important patron of neo-Gothic art in his home country.
Durlet was married to Jeanne Steveniers (1826-1900). His son Frans (1855–1931) was also an architect and his grandson Emmanuel became a well-known pianist and composer. He is the bearer of the Antwerp Durletstraat .
