František Emmert (* 1974 in Brno ) is a Czech writer and author of non-fiction books on modern history.

biography

Emmert was born into the family of the composer and professor at the Janáček Music Academy Franz Gregor Emmert. The father's family comes from the town of Weiden in Bavaria , the mother's family from Teplice in Bohemia . Father's ancestors worked for several generations as glaziers on the German side of the Bohemian Forest . The mother came from a business family that owned a family business, a pastry shop in Teplice, before 1948.

After Frantisek Emmert graduated from high school, he studied history and religious studies at the Philosophical Faculty of Masaryk University in Brno. Later (from 2005) he also studied at the Faculties of Law in Brno and Trnava . In 2011 he graduated from the Law Faculty of Charles University in Prague with a doctorate in law .

Between 1992 and 2006 he worked as a journalist, publicist and book editor. He was active in the Czech radio , in the daily newspapers Rovnost , Právo and ZNnoviny / Slovo and in the Czech press office. From 2009–2011 he was press spokesman for the Supreme Administrative Court in Brno.

He has been writing books since 2001. The first two works of fiction appeared in 2003 and 2004. However, it only caught on with non-fiction books on modern history. In 2005 the Vysehrad publishing house published the first book in the series of non-fiction books, Czechs in the Wehrmacht , which was reprinted shortly and caught the attention of readers and experts.

This was followed by narrative publications - such as Museums in the Book - which provide an overview of the key events of the 20th century, especially Czech history. These large-format publications differ from classic books in that they have above-average graphic processing and the clarity of the texts. They contain many photographs, independently printed supplements - facsimiles from archives and DVDs with contemporary radio recordings. Among other things, they serve as didactic means in schools. By 2012, Frantisek Emmert had prepared nine of these publications. Some of his books have been reprinted, won awards, or have been translated into English ( The Holocaust ). The publication Fateful Eights in Our History was awarded the E. E. Kisch main prize by the writers' community in 2009 .

Frantisek Emmert is also the author of other books including legal literature, co-author of the textbook on social sciences for technical schools, and author of commentaries and articles in the daily press and also of specialist articles and studies in the fields of history, law and international politics in specialist journals and edited volumes.

As a technical advisor, he participated in the preparation of the Czech historical film Lidice (2011).
