František Junek (born January 17, 1907 in Karlín , † March 19, 1970 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak football player .

Club career

Junek began playing football with Čechie Karlín , with whom he played in the professional league from the 1925/26 season. In 1928 the right winger moved to Slavia Prague . Junek was considered agile, fast and technically savvy. In particular, his precise, soft flanks and his exact corners often led to goals.

With Slavia Junek won six championships, namely from 1929 to 1931 and from 1933 to 1935 three in a row. The comparatively small Junek formed an excellent duo with the rather brawny František Svoboda .

For the 1935 season, the attacker switched to SK Kladno and ended his career in 1938. In 133 first division games Junek scored a total of 48 goals.

National team

Junek made his debut on September 15, 1929 in the 1: 2 against Austria in Vienna in the Czechoslovak national team . After that, the striker was part of the ČSR regular for five years. In the summer of 1934 he was part of the Czechoslovak squad at the World Cup in Italy , which only lost to hosts Italy 2-1 after extra time in the final . Junek was used in all four games.

After the World Cup, Junek only played two games in the dress with the lion on his chest. On September 2, 1934, the ČSR defeated Yugoslavia 3-1 in Prague , the winger experienced his dereliction on October 14, 1934 in a 2-2 draw against Switzerland in Geneva .
