František Kameníček

František Kameníček (born December 7, 1856 in Chvalkovice , † March 23, 1930 in Prague ) was a Czech historian.

Life

In 1877 Kamenicek graduated from the Slavic grammar school in Brno and then studied history and local history at the Charles University in Prague . In 1883 he was appointed doctor of philosophy. Just two years later he started teaching at the women's teaching institute for education. In 1882 he switched to the Czech secondary school in Prague and a year later to the 1st Austro-Hungarian High School in Brno, of which he was director from February 3, 1907 to 1923. In 1900 he received a professorship in Austrian history at the Czech Technical University , and since 1917 he has been appointed full professor of Czech history and cultural history. In 1910 he was elected an extraordinary member of the Czech Academy of Sciences. He spent his twilight years in Prague, where he was also active in several humanist associations.

Kamenicek was a member of the learned society of the Czech Academy, the Czech Royal Institute of Sciences, chairman of the Moravian Museum Association, member of the regional school board and since 1911 chairman of Matice Moravská . His merit was the establishment of a commission to compile a list of artistic and historical monuments in Moravia from the earliest history to modern times.

Works

Kamenicek wrote regularly for the journal of the association Matice moravská and was editor of the journal Vlastivěda moravská (Moravian Homeland History).
