Franz-Josef Deiters

Franz-Josef Deiters (born October 13, 1964 in Schermbeck on the Lower Rhine ) is a German-Australian literary scholar and Germanist .

Life

After graduating from high school in St. Ursula Dorsten and studying German and philosophy at the Eberhard-Karls-University in Tübingen , he worked at the German seminar there from 1993 to 2006, where he received his doctorate in philosophy in 1997 and in 2004 in the subject Newer German literature qualified as a professor. After a DAAD guest professorship at the University of Sarajevo in Bosnia-Herzegovina (2005) and a substitute professorship at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt a. M. (2006) he moved to Melbourne , Australia in October 2006 , where he has been teaching at Monash University since then . In 2010 Deiters was accepted into the Australian Academy of the Humanities . In 2018 he was visiting research professor at the University of Bergamo (Italy).

His research areas span German-language literature from the 18th century to the present day, the mediology of theater, various aspects of literary theory and philosophical aesthetics.
