There are museums and / or monuments in various cities where the pianist, composer and music teacher Franz Liszt worked.

Raiding

The birth house of Franz Liszt is located in Franz Liszt's birth house in Raiding in Burgenland . In 2008 it was opened as the new Franz Liszt Center with the newly designed Birthplace Museum and a concert hall. The concert hall has a capacity of 600 and is preferred for concerts with a small orchestra, for chamber concerts and piano concerts. A Liszt Festival takes place regularly.

A white bust of Liszt was erected on Franz-Liszt-Platz in 1967, donated by Piero Otto Bremer from Italy, made by his son Ricardo.

Eisenstadt

In 1936, on the 125th birthday of Franz Liszt, one of his largest monuments was unveiled on Esterhazyplatz. The white marble work is by A. Jaray.

Weimar

In Weimar , the former Hofgärtnerhaus on Marienstraße, the former home of Franz Liszt (he lived on the first floor), has been set up as a museum ( Liszt House Weimar ; Klassik Stiftung Weimar ) since 1954 . A few years ago the entire house was renovated and is now the largest Liszt Museum in Germany. In all rooms there is information about Liszt's life and work.

In the Park an der Ilm, not far from the Roman house and the Shakespeare monument, there is the monumental Liszt monument made of white Carrara marble. It was designed by the sculptor Hermann Hahn and unveiled in 1902.

Budapest

The former Liszt apartment on the grounds of the old music academy in Budapest , where Liszt lived for six years, is now a museum. You can see original musical instruments (especially pianos), furniture, books, sheet music and personal items.

In the heart of Budapest, on Ferenc Liszt Square, an attractive memorial was erected in 1986 on the 100th anniversary of the composer's death.

Bayreuth

When Franz Liszt visited the Bayreuth Festival in July 1886 , he was already seriously ill. He was accommodated in the house of the chief forester Fröhlig, right next to the Villa Wahnfried , where his daughter Cosima Wagner lived with her children. On the night of July 31st to August 1st he died in the presence of Cosima and was buried on August 3rd in the Bayreuth city cemetery. The house where he died at Wahnfriedstraße 9 was opened in 1993 as the Franz Liszt Museum . It mainly includes the collection of around 300 exhibits by the Munich pianist Ernst Burger , which was acquired by the city of Bayreuth. The museum is managed by the Richard Wagner Museum Bayreuth.

A Liszt bust by Arno Breker is on the Green Hill of Bayreuth, in the park in front of the Festspielhaus , not far from the Breker bust by Richard Wagner .

The small chapel in which Franz Liszt is buried is located in the Bayreuth city cemetery . It was destroyed in a bomb attack in April 1945 and reconstructed in the 1970s.

Liszt monuments

Another memorial has been on the Philharmonie-Platz in Chernivtsi since 2015 .
