Connection of the birthplace to the concert hall

The house where Franz Liszt was born is in Raiding, Burgenland, at Lisztstrasse 46. In 1911, a museum dedicated to Franz Liszt was opened and in 2006 a concert hall was added.

Birthplace

The building was part of a noble courtyard which , according to the coat of arms and the inscription on the arched portal leading into the property at Lisztstraße 46, was built by Georg Szeged in 1587 and enlarged in 1610/20. Acquired by the Esterházy family between 1806 and 1808 , the building was continued as Esterházy'scher Meierhof

In old plans, only the central building of the Meierhof , the "Edelhof", is shown as a T-shaped complex, the outbuildings only appear in the cadastral plan from 1911 the traditional T-shape was created through structural redesign of the Edelhof. The part of the building that still exists today (the residential wing was demolished in the 19th century) includes the last, three-room section of the rear-facing garden wing (which includes a walled arcade along the side).

From 1911 the house housed the Liszt Museum . After the Meierhof was closed in 1940 and the parcels around the Liszthaus were sold, the renovation and design took place from 1949 and, on October 7, 1951, in the presence of Federal Minister for Education Felix Hurdes (1901–1974), the (re- ) Opening of the three-room house - not as a Liszt Museum , but - as a Liszt memorial , in which the few original memorabilia that had remained from the collection created in 1911 were displayed in glass cases. In 1971 the property was transferred from Paul Esterházy to the community.

After extensive redesign, the house where he was born was opened as the Franz Liszt Museum on April 27, 1979 in the presence of Hans Walter Wild (1919–2001), Lord Mayor of Bayreuth , the place where Liszt died .

The collection has the organ from the old church, a small baroque positive that was repaired in 1840 on behalf of Franz Liszt. The museum owns a bust of Franz Liszt created in 1867 by the sculptor Kaspar Zumbusch (1830–1915) and erected in 1925.

The arched portal with a lattice facing the still clapboard house bears a statue of Maria Immaculata on the cornice, between two laterally attached pine cones

Concert hall

After the project was selected by the Franz Liszt Society on January 26, 2005 and the groundbreaking ceremony on June 10, 2005, the birthplace was expanded to include a concert hall and a Liszt Center Raiding . With the opening on October 15, 2006 by Federal President Heinz Fischer , a one-week Liszt Festival was started at the same time.

The concert hall with a capacity of 600 visitors (construction costs: 6.8 million euros) was built according to plans by Atelier Kempe Thill , Rotterdam , and received the 2008 Burgenland Architecture Prize.
