Friedrich Berg (prehistoric)

Friedrich Berg (born February 20, 1930 in Vienna ) is an Austrian prehistorian and state curator.

Berg studied prehistory at the University of Vienna from 1947 to 1953 and received his doctorate in philosophy on July 14, 1953. From 1954 to 1965 he was Josef Höbarth's successor and director of the Höbarth Museum in Horn . After a brief activity at the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts, he worked at the Federal Monuments Office in Vienna from 1967 to 1990 , namely as head of the museum department, as state curator of Burgenland and finally as head of the department for ground monuments. In 1990 he retired as a councilor.

Berg is an active member of the Association for Folklore and the Anthropological Society as well as the Austrian Society for Pre- and Protohistory in Vienna and the Museum Association in Horn. He works as a lecturer, excursion guide and as a member of the board. The Austrian Society for Prehistory and Early History made him an honorary member.

So far there have been around 130 specialist publications by Friedrich Berg, which can be thematically assigned to his various areas of activity. There are also innumerable newspaper articles, cultural reports, book reviews and biographical works. A large part of his efforts was and is dedicated to the Waldviertel and, above all, to the town of Horn .

Berg received the plaque of honor for his services in 2000 and the culture award of the city of Horn in 2006 .
