Franz Anton Dreher

Franz Anton Dreher (born July 29, 1736 in Pfullendorf , † November 19, 1820 in Kledering , Lower Austria ) was an Austrian beer brewer and entrepreneur. He is considered to be the founder of the Dreher "beer dynasty" , which lasted until 1926.

Life

He came to Vienna in 1760 as a waiter and soon after leased the Ober-Lanzendorf brewery in Lower Austria . In 1782 he also leased the brewery in the lower Werd in Leopoldstadt near Vienna and ran it successfully.

In 1796, Franz Anton Dreher bought the Klein-Schwechater Brauhaus (today's Schwechat Brewery ) for 19,000 guilders including land.

Dreher's first marriage was childless with Maria Anna Huber, she died in 1803. In his second marriage he married Katharina Widter (1786–1864), with her he had three daughters and a son ( Anton Dreher ). He invented lager in 1841 .
