Franz Böhmert (born January 21, 1934 in Gröningen , Province of Saxony , † December 28, 2004 in Bremen ) was a German doctor and sports functional .

The doctor of anesthesia , chief physician (1968–1974) and then medical director of the “Links der Weser” clinic , was from 1963 to 1970 club doctor for the Bundesliga club Werder Bremen , was elected president of the club in 1970 and remained so until 1999 he was chairman of the supervisory board of the separated corporation until his death . Under his leadership, Bremen was three times German champion and five times DFB Cup winner , in 1992 the European Cup Winners' Cup was won. Böhmert signed Otto Rehhagel and Willi Lemke for the club.

Böhmert later also worked for the DFB , but repeatedly campaigned for Bremen. From 1987 to 2000 Böhmert was a board member of the DFB League Committee . From 2000 to October 2004, Franz Böhmert was a member of the DFB board of directors of the DFL league association . Böhmert was an honorary member of the DFB and the DFL as well as the recipient of the Golden DFB Badge of Honor . The "doctor", as he was called, died on December 28, 2004 after a stroke . After his death, the street on which the Weser Stadium and the association's office are located was renamed and has been named after him ever since.

In his private life, Böhmert was a fan of jazz music and co-founder of the Werder Big Band (1996) and the Bremen Trumpet Academy , was married and had a daughter born in 1966.
