Franz Baum (archer)

Franz Baum (born November 27, 1926 in Groß Czernosek , Czechoslovakia ; † February 17, 2010 ) was a German archer who coached the German national team from 1972 to 1991 .

Life

Baum came to the community of Alfdorf near Welzheim in 1946 after being a short prisoner of war . In 1960 he became a member of the Schützengilde (SGi) Welzheim; In 1964 he took over its chairmanship. Previously he had only dealt with rifle shooting , this year he started archery.

Due to various national successes, he was offered the post of national coach in 1972 , which he held part-time until 1980. Then he was a full-time coach of the German national team until his retirement in 1991. During Baum's time as national coach, the German archers were able to win several world and European championship titles and two Olympic medals.

After his retirement, Baum worked as a club trainer for SGi Welzheim and on the board of the club; here he was significantly involved in various national successes of the Welzheim archers.
