Franz Boccius

Karl Franz Bernhard Boccius (born November 18, 1831 in Neustrelitz , † May 20, 1907 in Blankenburg , Thuringia ) was a German lawyer and secret councilor .

Life and work

Franz Boccius, son of a chamber councilor , studied law a. a. in Göttingen, where he joined the newly founded fraternity of Hannovera in the winter semester of 1848/49 . After passing the usual state exams, he was a lawyer in Neustrelitz for a short time. He then joined the judicial service of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and worked as a judicial assessor in Schönberg. After the establishment of the common Mecklenburg Tax and Customs Directorate in Schwerin in 1863, he became the third member of the new authority with the character of a tax council; In 1871 he was chief customs officer. When in the years after 1871 special tasks were outsourced from the Reich Chancellery and transferred to Reich offices (Reich ministries), he was given a new, influential position in 1876 when the Reich Treasury Office was founded in Berlin. He was one of the few non-Prussian officials of the higher service who rose to head of department with the title of Privy Councilor. At his own request, he was released in 1891. He then worked as a lawyer in Blankenburg / Thuringia until his death. He made a contribution to the Tonkünstlerverein for Neustrelitz and the surrounding area, which later appointed him honorary president.
